The Donut is a dense swirl of solid wood, made entirely from repurposed hardwood factory offcuts, carved into a form that appears both still and always moving. Topped with a round glass top, it functions as a coffee, cocktail, or conversation table, or alone as sculpture or seat. The wood is factory waste boards discarded for knots, cracks, color variation. We categorize each piece by size, compose them by hand in a grid, and carve the piece into its donut form. The arrangement reveals a unique flux of grain patterns that makes each one distinct.
At the end of every school year, our mothers made us salvage every blank page from our old notebooks - ruled, unruled, grid-lined - and bind them into one giant workbook for the summer. Nothing wasted. The Donut began from that practice.

The donut table was born from the challenge of using vast quantities of factory waste end boards - cut offs from either ends of solid wood long boards that are discarded to eliminate cracks, checks or warping. To create the donut the boards are arranged in a carefully engineered pattern and then carved by a CNC into the donut form. The arrangement of the boards throws up a unique flux of grain patterns that make each donut table distinct, and delicious to look at.
The donut table is part of the collection, Dessert Menu by soft-geometry, featuring solid wood pieces that each explore different notions of sweet in a succinctly curated menu meant to inspire (sugar) highs!
