Donut Coffee Table, Chocolate

Solid Acacia Wood, chocolate glaze, glass top

The donut is a dense swirl of solid wood, rich with varying grain and gradient in a clear finish. Topped with a round glass top, the donut functions as a coffee, cocktail or conversation table, or by itself as sculpture or seat.

The piece is made entirely from repurposed wood, using vast quantities of hardwood factory waste that are discarded to eliminate knots, cracks and color variation. To create the donut, the pieces are carefully composed by hand in a grid pattern and carved into its donut form. The arrangement of the boards throws up a unique flux of grain patterns that make each donut table distinct* and delicious to look at.

Childhood memories of having to show the stubs of pencils to be granted a new one, and our Indian mothers shouting ‘do not waste anything’ - formed the underlying inspiration behind working with waste material and creating a geometry that renders it soft and sweet.

*The nature of the donut and its construction, renders every single piece completely unique, with its grain, sizes of boards, and varying color tones in the wood material. Please view photos as a reference for patterns and color ranges only.

Learn more about the donut table

The donut table was born from the challenge of using vast quantities of factory waste end boards - cut offs from either ends of solid wood long boards that are discarded to eliminate cracks, checks or warping. To create the donut the boards are arranged in a carefully engineered pattern and then carved by a CNC into the donut form. The arrangement of the boards throws up a unique flux of grain patterns that make each donut table distinct, and delicious to look at.

The donut table is part of the collection, Dessert Menu by soft-geometry, featuring solid wood pieces that each explore different notions of sweet in a succinctly curated menu meant to inspire (sugar) highs!
