Sculptural lighted portraits, in between object and body, tracing soft domestic rituals of adornment and care.

The series emerge from shared memories; of slow and sacred Sunday afternoons—mothers and sisters lined up, oiling, massaging, combing, and braiding hair. Of Monday mornings that followed—a hurried, disciplined weaving for school. And of repeating these same rituals for each other now, as two long-haired adults far from home—a quiet choreography passed down through hands. These often unseen domestic acts become the foundation for a series of wall-mounted pieces that trace the soft rituals that make home.

Transforming memory into object, and ritual into light, Long-Haired Sconces take shape as sculptural, lighted portraits—existing in between object and body. Each sconce features a hand-blown glass orb, crowned with cascading braids in varying lengths and formations. The braids are cast in a hemp-lime composite—a sustainable, carbon-negative material more often used in architecture than in the decorative arts. Here, soft-geometry reimagines it at an intimate, tactile scale. The hemp is mixed, shaped, dried slowly over weeks, and finished in hand-applied lime washes that preserve its natural texture.

The braids can be composed into different formations on the wall, tracing expressions of joy, ceremony, frivolity, or restraint.
